What are Eater Types? (& Why You Absolutely Should Know Yours)

You may well have come across many ‘typing’ assessments and quizzes in your time – everything from knowing what your star sign is (I’m a Libran), all the way through to “What type of friend/partner/business owner are you?”

While some typing systems can be a little tongue-in-cheek and purely for fun, others provide real and genuine value – value that we can use to get to know ourselves better and to understand our own unique habits, behaviours and ultimately, why we do what we do.

The ‘What Eater Type Are You?’ assessment fall into the latter category. While it absolutely is fun to discover your Eater Type and that of those you love, ultimately you will gain massive value and clarity from learning more about your Type and how it has been doing its thing in your diet and life – for better or worse!

There are 10 Eater Types in total. We actually have all 10 of them within us, however, for various different reasons, one is currently more dominant for you and is making most of your day-to-day eating decisions, whether you realise it or not!

Once you get to know all 10 better, you’ll see that each Eater Type is actually very different and distinct – this being because each one is driven by a very different set of needs.

For example, the Functional Eater is driven by speed and ease, whereas the Sensual Eater is driven by pleasure and experience. The Experimental Eater is driven by diversity and adventure, whereas the Social Eater is driven by connection and fun. These are just four of the 10 Types. I’ll be sharing more about them all here on my blog, as well as on all of my socials and podcasts, as there is so much to share!

Before we dive a little deeper, and as an important side note, just in case you were wondering (most people do!) there is not an Eater Type that is ‘better to have’.

Every Eater Type has its pros and cons, and every Type has a healthy and unhealthy expression. You can absolutely get to the weight or other result that you want with the Type you currently have running the show – as long as you are working with its strengths and within its healthy expression. What matters most right now is:

  • knowing which of the 10 is your current most dominant Eater Type (the one that is calling most or all of the shots)
  • how it has been working for or against your body/health/diet goals
  • how you can start to consciously work WITH it, to get the results that you are looking for.

In summary: wherever you are at with your eating right now, and however you feel about that, it is largely going to be down to the Eater Type that has been leading the charge in your eating habits for the past few weeks, months or years.

The good news is, if you don’t like the results you have been getting and the way that your current Eater Type has been running the show, all of this can be changed.

Once you know your Eater Type, finally everything will start to make sense. It is so freeing and illuminating to know what your most dominant Eater Type is and then to get to understand it better, because knowledge is power!

You’ll understand why some things you’ve been doing (driven by your Type) work really well for you without even thinking about them, while others create such pain, challenges and lack of the real results that you want with your eating.

Not only will you understand yourself better, but as you start to learn about the other 9 Types, you’ll also understand everyone else around you so much better which is invaluable for a happier home life and healthier relationships.
